Full Home Interiors in Bangalore: What the Work Actually Is

A full home interior is not one job. It is four or five different trades working in sequence, and the one most people mean when they say interiors, the fitted woodwork, is both the largest share of the budget and the last thing that should be installed. Knowing which part is which changes how you plan it and who you hire.

What Does a Full Home Interior Actually Contain?

Several distinct kinds of work that get sold as one word. Separating them is the first useful thing a homeowner can do, because they have different costs, different trades and a strict order.

WorkWhat it coversWhen it happens
Civil and wet workWall changes, waterproofing, plumbing, tiling, bathroomsFirst. Everything else waits on it
ElectricalPoint positions, circuits, switch platesEarly, and positions must be final before woodwork is made
False ceilingGypsum or POP, cove lightingAfter electrical, before painting
PaintingWalls and ceilingsAfter ceiling, usually before woodwork installation
Fitted woodworkKitchen, wardrobes, TV unit, crockery, pooja, study, foyer storageLast of the fixed work. Largest single share
Loose furniture and soft furnishingsSofas, beds, curtains, rugsAfter handover

Gunmala Interiors does the fitted woodwork row and nothing else. We work to electrical points that already exist and we do not take on civil, wet, ceiling or painting work. Where those are needed first, we say so.

Why Does the Woodwork Decide How the Home Feels?

Because it is what you touch and what you look at. Walls are a backdrop. The kitchen, the wardrobes and the storage units are the objects you open, close and stand in front of several times a day, and they are where quality is felt rather than seen.

It is also the largest single share of a fit-out budget in most Indian homes, which means it is where a decision has the most leverage in either direction. A well-specified kitchen in a plainly painted flat reads far better than an elaborately decorated flat with a kitchen that sags within three years.

The practical implication for planning is to decide the woodwork specification first and let the rest follow, rather than spending the budget on finishes and treating the joinery as whatever is left.

What Order Does the Work Have to Happen In?

Strictly, and getting it wrong is expensive. The dependencies are physical rather than preferential.

  • Civil and wet work first. Walls, waterproofing, plumbing and tiling all involve water and dust that would ruin finished joinery
  • Electrical positions finalised before woodwork is measured. A socket that moves after a unit is made is a unit with a hole in the wrong place
  • False ceiling before painting, because the ceiling work damages paint
  • Painting before woodwork installation, so walls can be cut in without masking finished units
  • Woodwork installed last among the fixed trades
  • Loose furniture after handover

The most common and most expensive sequencing error is finalising woodwork drawings before electrical positions are settled. Everything else can usually be absorbed; that one cannot.

How Does This Change by Flat Size?

Less than people expect, because the work per unit is the same regardless of how many units there are. What changes is the count and the sequencing pressure.

In a 2BHK the constraint is usually storage capacity rather than budget, because two bedrooms and one kitchen have to hold everything. The second bedroom is almost always the bottleneck. We cover this in detail in our guide on how much wardrobe storage a 2BHK needs.

In a 3BHK the risk shifts to spreading a fixed budget across every room so that nothing is finished properly. Doing fewer rooms well generally reads better than doing all of them partially.

In a 4BHK or a villa the risk is co-ordination. More rooms means more trades overlapping, more opportunities for the sequence to break, and a much greater benefit from settling the whole specification once rather than room by room.

Is This a New Fit-Out or a Renovation?

Worth establishing early, because the two are different jobs that happen to share a vocabulary.

In an empty new flat, every unit is being built, electrical and civil are usually still in play, and the sequence above applies in full.

In a flat that already has interiors, most of what exists is usually worth keeping. Carcasses, wall fixing, tiling and concealed services generally survive; shutters, hardware and finishes generally do not. That is a far smaller and less disruptive job, and it is most of what we do. Our guide on home interior renovation in Bengaluru covers how to tell which you are dealing with.

A resale flat in Bengaluru is almost always the second case, even when the instinct on taking possession is to strip everything out.

What Do Bangalore Societies Require?

Written intimation before work begins, a refundable deposit against damage to common areas, worker identification for gate registration, agreed working hours and a plan for lift use and debris. In a large complex those rules are enforced rather than notional.

A full home fit-out involves far more material movement and far more debris than a woodwork-only job, so the lift and debris rules bind harder. Start the paperwork before the survey rather than after the quotation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a full home interior project?

Several distinct trades sold as one word: civil and wet work, electrical, false ceiling, painting, fitted woodwork, and loose furniture. They have different costs, different trades and a strict order. The fitted woodwork is usually the largest single share.

Does Gunmala Interiors do full home interiors?

We do the fitted woodwork part: kitchens, wardrobes, TV units, crockery units, pooja units, study desks and storage. We do not do civil work, plumbing, tiling, bathrooms, false ceilings, flooring, wall painting or electrical rewiring. Where those are needed first, we say so rather than quoting around them.

What order does interior work have to happen in?

Civil and wet work first, electrical positions finalised next, false ceiling, then painting, then fitted woodwork, then loose furniture after handover. The dependencies are physical rather than preferential, and the sequence is not flexible.

What is the most expensive sequencing mistake?

Finalising woodwork drawings before electrical positions are settled. A socket that moves after a unit has been manufactured is a unit with an opening in the wrong place. Most other sequencing errors can be absorbed; that one cannot.

Why does the woodwork matter more than the finishes?

Because it is what you touch and open several times a day, and because it is usually the largest share of the budget. A well-specified kitchen in a plainly painted flat reads better than an elaborate flat with joinery that sags within three years.

How does the work change between a 2BHK and a 4BHK?

Less than expected, because the work per unit is the same. In a 2BHK the constraint is storage capacity, usually in the second bedroom. In a 3BHK it is spreading a budget too thin across rooms. In a 4BHK or villa it is co-ordination between overlapping trades.

Is a resale flat a new fit-out or a renovation?

Almost always a renovation, even though the instinct on taking possession is to strip everything out. Carcasses, wall fixing, tiling and concealed services generally survive; shutters, hardware and finishes generally do not. That is a far smaller and less disruptive job.

What approvals does a full home fit-out need in Bangalore?

Written intimation to the association, a refundable deposit, worker identification, agreed working hours and a plan for lift use and debris removal. A full fit-out moves far more material than a woodwork-only job, so lift and debris rules bind harder. Start the paperwork early.

Book a survey

Tell us what you have and what is bothering you. We survey the site, tell you honestly what can be retained, and quote per square foot of the work actually done.

About this guide. This is general guidance for homeowners, not a quotation. Every home differs in size, condition, material quantity and access, and all of those change the work involved. Gunmala Interiors prices per square foot of the work actually done, measured during a site survey, so nothing here should be read as a fixed price, a fixed timeline, or a commitment for your home. Material rates and availability also move over time. For a figure you can rely on, book a survey.
