Ask a firm to redo your kitchen and you will get five quotations by Friday. Ask the same firm to redo the TV unit, the crockery unit and the pooja unit and most of them will quote you for a full home interior instead, because that is the job they are set up to sell.
These units are fitted woodwork. They have a carcass, shutters, hardware and internals, exactly like a kitchen does, and they age in exactly the same order. The hinges go first, the finishes follow, and the box behind them is usually still sound at ten years.
If it was built in by a carpenter and it has shutters or drawers, it is in scope.

Every unit gets the same inspection the kitchen and wardrobe get: base panel condition, screw-hold at the fixing points, squareness, back panel attachment and shelf deflection. The result decides which of three scopes applies, and the gap between them is large.

Survey, specification, society paperwork, lift booking, delivery and site setup all happen once regardless of how many units are in the job. Doing the TV unit in March and the crockery unit in September pays for all of that twice.
There is a finish argument too. Units done years apart rarely match, because laminate batches move and decors get discontinued. Units specified together read as one home. If the budget only stretches to some of them now, we would rather agree the finish across all of them and stage the work than let the later pieces drift.

What counts as modular furniture renovation?
Any fitted woodwork unit in the home that is not the kitchen or the wardrobe: TV and media units, crockery and dining storage, pooja units, study and work desks, foyer and shoe storage, dressers, bed storage and headboard panels, utility units, bar units and fitted partitions. The work is shutters, hardware, finishes and internals rather than rebuilding the carcass.
Do you do civil or wet work?
No. Gunmala Interiors does modular woodwork renovation only. We do not do tiling, plumbing, waterproofing, bathroom work, wall demolition or anything structural. If a job needs that first, we will say so plainly rather than quote around it.
Can you renovate a TV unit without removing the wall panelling?
Usually yes. A TV unit is typically a base console, a back panel and side storage, and those are separable. Refacing the console shutters and upgrading the cable management can be done while retaining the panelling behind, provided the panel itself is sound and still fixed properly.
My pooja unit is solid wood, not modular. Can it still be renovated?
Often, and it is a different job. Solid wood units are refinished rather than refaced, which means stripping and recoating rather than replacing panels. Carved elements and jaali work can usually be retained and cleaned. We will tell you at survey which approach the piece needs.
Is it worth renovating a unit rather than replacing it?
It depends on the carcass, the same as a kitchen or a wardrobe. If the box is sound and the complaint is about the finish, the hardware or the internals, renovation gives you the change for a fraction of the disruption. If the carcass has failed, renovating around it wastes the new work.
How is this priced?
Per square foot of the work actually done, measured at a site survey, with retained items listed at zero on the quotation. A package price per unit makes no sense for renovation, because the whole point is that parts of the unit are not being redone.
Can several units be done in one visit?
Yes, and it is usually the sensible way. Survey, specification and society paperwork happen once, material is delivered once and the site is set up once. Doing a TV unit and a crockery unit in separate visits pays for that access twice.
Do these jobs need society approval in Bangalore?
Most apartment associations require written intimation before any interior work, a refundable deposit, worker identification for the gate and agreement on working hours and lift use. Modular furniture work touches no structure and no shared wall, so approval is normally straightforward, but the paperwork still takes time.
